The Mackinac Bridge which connects Michigan’s upper and lower peninsulas and is the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere with 7,400 feet of roadway suspended in the air over the straits of Mackinac. The total length of the iconic bridge--which is noted as a leading architectural example worldwide, is approximately five miles. The bridge was first opened to vehicular traffic in 1957.
