A wind-energy collaboration based in Eaton Rapids and led by URV USA, the subsidiary of a Finnish supplier of cast-iron wind turbine components, is Michigan’s newest Center of Energy Excellence (COEE). “URV USA is proud to launch this new wind turbine foundry with the support of Governor Granholm and the MEDC,” said Ari Lehtonen, URV USA president and CEO. “We have greatly appreciated the strong support and guidance that all of the related agencies have provided us on the planning of our new North American operations.”

Arvin Meritor Inc. and Inteva Products LLC plan to invest a combined total of $27.9 million in existing tech centers located in Troy (Oakland County). “We’re adding design and engineering jobs as well as support staff,” Misty Matthews, Inteva director of communications and publications, told MetroMode. “This will support our growth with new and existing customers.”

Digital Office Systems in Plymouth, a commercial office equipment company since 1985, has seen business from film projects increase almost proportionally to the slide in other sectors since 2008. “We were able to benefit almost from the start of the incentives,” President Arnie Rautbort said. “We had gone through some hard times, and the revenue from this sector really helped us stay afloat. It’s definitely been of significance.”

The world’s largest home appliance maker plans to invest $86.8 million in real and personal property to consolidate its world headquarters in downtown Benton Harbor. “We are going to be making plans to consolidate our office headquarter operations into three locations," Jeff Noel, corporate vice president for Whirlpool, told WSBT-TV. The plan will mean consolidating 15 of its owned and leased facilities into three office campuses, which will include building a new multimillion-dollar facility along Main Street in Benton Harbor.
