The USDA has released a new solicitation on its Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). The opportunity is entitled Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvements and is open until June 30, 2010. The program provides grants for energy audits and renewable energy development assistance. It also provides funding to agricultural producers and rural small businesses to make energy efficient improvements and install renewable energy systems. Eligible projects include retrofitting lighting or insulation, purchasing or replacing equipment with more efficiency units, and projects that produce energy from wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, hydro power and hydrogen-based sources.
Funding will be available in the form of grants and loan guarantees or a combination of both. All projects must be located in a rural area, be technically feasible, and be owned by the applicant.
