The Michigan Economic Development CorporationSM (MEDC) Economic Recovery Coordination Office will provide information to businesses and communities to ensure that they are informed of the opportunities available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act).

We are fostering relationships with federal agencies and actively working to ensure that Michigan's economic development needs are represented and addressed by the Recovery Act and other programs. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today released its "2009 Wind Technologies Market Report." This report, authored primarily by DOE's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, provides a comprehensive overview of trends in the rapidly-evolving U.S. wind power market.
DOE announced on July 27 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between itself and the U.S. Department of Defense to accelerate clean energy innovation and enhance national energy security. Both agencies are committed to reducing U.S. vulnerabilities through improved efficiencies, reduced fossil fuel use, and on-site renewable power generation.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the recipients of $16 million in brownfield cleanup funding.  Two Michigan communities, Wayne County and the Downriver Community Conference, are receiving a combined total of $1.6 million in revolving loan fund grants to carryout cleanup activities, redevelopment projects, and to create jobs for local residents living near the sites.
Detroit Edison issued a Request for Prequalification to purchase wind turbine generation equipment to be installed at one or more wind farms the electric utility is planning to develop.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced the availability of the 2010 Rural Cooperative Development Grants.  These grants provide funding for the establishment and operation of centers for cooperative development for the primary purpose of improving the economic condition of rural areas.  Funds will be awarded to applicants who demonstrate the ability to assist individuals or entities in the startup, expansion, or operational improvement of rural businesses. 

DOE has opened a second round of its Solid State Lighting – U.S. Manufacturing Competition.  This round is seeking applied research which will achieve cost-reduction in solid-state lighting (SSL) through improvements in manufacturing equipment, processes, or techniques.  The accomplishment of this goal is expected to lead to more rapid adoption/installation of high quality SSL products, resulting in a significant reduction in energy use and environmental pollutants.
