Bioenergy Incentives and Development Programs
A combination of policies, state grants, tax-based incentives, and federal appropriations have been strategically applied to support the development of the bioenergy value chain.
To ensure systematic development and growth for Michigan’s bioenergy sector, three core areas are included in the strategic plan:
- Supporting biochemical pathway development via the Centers of Energy Excellence program.
- Promoting value chain efficiencies via the Centers of Energy Excellence program and federal appropriations.
- Promoting value-added bioenergy (e.g. waste-to-energy) solutions for existing Michigan businesses via traditional state incentives and state energy grants.
Bioenergy Site Selection Resources
Helpful resources to identify sources of biomass as well as evaluate potential sites for bioenergy and biofuel facilities in Michigan.
Examples of Prime Sites for Renewable Fuel Locations:
- Georgia Pacific mill in Gaylord, Michigan
- Sappi Fine Paper mill in Muskegon, Michigan
- Ontonagon County, Michigan - Economic Development Corporation
