Selling to Government
A possibility for small business growth in Michigan lies in the opportunity of selling to the government at both the state and federal level, particularly in the defense industry and homeland security industry. Michigan has invested significantly in a Defense Contract Coordination Center (DCCC) through its 21st Century Jobs Fund program and has identified homeland security and defense as one of our targeted initiatives.
Currently headed by U.S. Marine Corps Major General Bradley M. Lott (ret.), the $10 million DCCC will support the mission to increase the number of federal government contracts and procurement opportunities for Michigan companies, leading to new jobs and investments in the state. General Lott's stellar experience and the high concentration of R&D and talent in Michigan positions companies in the state well for securing a larger share of government contracts to the multi-billion-dollar defense industry.
General Lott will work closely with Michigan's network of 12 Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs). PTACs are not-for-profit organizations funded by the Defense Logistics Agency, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and local funding partners to offer marketing, consulting and training assistance to businesses in the state. The PTACs support our national security by ensuring a broad base of capable suppliers for the defense and homeland security industry and other agencies.
For help obtaining and performing federal, state and local government contracts, visit the Procurement Technical Assistance Centers Web site.
