Magna Seating to Build New Plant on Site of Former Chrysler HQ in Highland Park
Novi-based Magna Seating of America plans to build a new $18-million multi-product facility in Highland Park on the Chrysler headquarters site left vacant after the automaker moved to Auburn Hills in 1992. Ontario, Canada-based parts supplier Magna International has 30 facilities in Michigan with 4,900 employees. Magna Seating, a unit of Magna International, currently has 280 employees in Michigan. The project will create 1,414 new jobs, including 420 directly by the company and 994 spin-off jobs. State and local tax credits amounting to $6 million over seven years helped make the case for a Michigan location.
