Powertrain R&D Company Creating Electric Vehicle Powertrain Center in Ann Arbor

AVL Powertrain Engineering, the North American operation of AVL, the 60-year-old powertrain consulting company based in Austria, plans to invest $2.6 million in a new hybrid and alternative fuel development center in Ann Arbor for electric vehicle powertrain development. AVL Powertrain currently has 377 employees in Michigan. The project will create 76 total jobs, including 40 directly by the company and 36 indirect jobs. State and local tax incentives valued at $298,559 over five years were offered to win the project for Michigan over a competing site in California.
