Expansion underscores strength of Michigan’s manufacturing talent

LANSING, Mich. – Mophie, Inc., a global manufacturer of battery cases and other accessories for mobile devices, today announced plans to expand in Texas Township (Kalamazoo County) and create 65 jobs with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund. The project is expected to generate $685,000 in total investment.

“Mophie is a world leader in the battery case market, and its decision to expand in Michigan rather than in another state will mean additional jobs for years to come,” said Steve Arwood, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, which administers incentives and programs on behalf of MSF. “This decision by Mophie to invest here offers further evidence of Michigan’s talented workforce and our commitment to helping companies grow and generate new jobs for our residents.”

Mophie, Inc. (formally mStation Audio, LLC) was founded in 2006 in Paw Paw to design, develop, manufacture, and market speakers for smartphones, tablets, and MP3 Player devices. Today, the company’s products include battery cases, universal external batteries, cables and other accessories for mobile devices. The company was acquired in February 2016 by ZAGG Inc., headquartered in Utah.

Mophie plans to expand its facility in Texas Township, investing $685,000 and creating 65 jobs related to customer service. As a result the company has been awarded a $375,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Utah.

“The Mophie team here in Michigan would like to sincerely thank all those involved in assisting with our tremendous growth and success by ensuring a healthy labor force remains right here in Southwest Michigan,” said Mophie Director of Operations Don Danielson. “Mophie has been in a continuous dialogue with the MDEC and Southwest Michigan First since 2011. The grant funding approved by the Michigan Strategic Fund has been instrumental to our growth and investment into the community. Thanks again to all who helped make this happen.”

Southwest Michigan First has offered support to the project in the form of staff time and resources. Individuals interested in career opportunities with mophie should visit http://www.mophie.com/careers.
